Those who have been following me for a while have probably noticed that I have been participating in a group called TheHungerGamesOCT for quite some time now. It's back for another season, and if you love the Hunger Games, or if you've been itching for a laid back OCT with a tight-knit community, you should totally join!

:iconthehungergamesoct:

The President, having switched to gold heels for the occasion, took the podium to make her speech. “Citizens of Panem! It is my absolute delight to announce the formal beginning of our noble tradition, the Sixty-Ninth Annual Hunger Games!”

:bulletblue: Welcome back everyone! :bulletblue:
For our next Hunger Games, we’ll be skipping to Year 69 on our timeline. It takes place after the events of our storylines for the 59th and 60th Hunger Games, in case anyone would like to revisit those old characters - and well after the events of the 25th and 44th. This year I'll be stepping down from being a competitor, but I will be sticking around as a judge instead! It's an open medium OCT with just a week and a half left for auditions, but if you pester the host, an extension is likely to happen ;)

I'm totally procrastinating yep

RULES (please read)
1. For the first 7* (I'm not gonna put a limit) people who comment on this journal, I will feature one of their characters I like the most and comment my choice. (I will Stalk the living ball out of  your gallery and pick one character and one picture I like, you don't need to tell me which one)
2. If you comment, please do the same in your journal, and put me in the first feature slot. The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone! I'll feature you after you've made the journal.

1. :iconreddleadr:
Lion Knight and Pandora ref sheet for Sanctum by Reddleadr
This guy has so many colorful, dynamic characters, but I'm going to go with Pandora. She's a futuristic twist on Pandora's Box and has a pretty sharp design despite its simplicity. Being a treasure trove of every sort of weapon gives her endless creative possibilities that I know an artist like Dono would take full advantage of.

2. :iconparziivale:
Of Course I can Heal You by Parziivale
This mother fucker and his stupid antics. He's downright ridiculous and I love him for it. Nothing slows this guy down, not even losing an eye or an arm.

3. :iconalways-tea-time:
Alexandrite Adalstan - D2 App by Always-Tea-Time
It was a toss up between Gryffon and Alex, but I suppose I'm more interested in Alex since I am yet to see how his character arc unfolds. He has all the snark that makes him an endearing asshole, and I look forward to seeing how his conflicting loyalties will tear him apart B)

4. :iconhisiheyah:
Urbem Regiam by anqila
I love love love Ivy's technopath abilities and how she uses them to run her city. I'm a sucker for strong characters that still have a sense of style, and Ivy easily poses herself as someone that you wouldn't want to fuck with while still looking cute and fashionable.

5. :iconbroeckchen:
Coffee - BSOCT Ref by Broeckchen
Coffee looks adorable, ok? She also has a bit of a mean streak going, but she has a fascinating story behind her and a great coffee theme that ties in really nicely with her personality.

6. :iconschizobot:

Oh noooooo. Harrison. bby. I'm too weak for friendly robots who become hurt and broken, and I don't see things getting any better for this one. Harrison has a lovely design though, and the way Schizobot presents their character development through body language and posture is brilliant.

I also ended up being tagged two more times for the 10 facts, 10 questions meme. Since I already posted 10 facts about myself in the last journal, I'll just go ahead and answer the questions.

Questions by :iconschizobot:

1. If you could go anywhere (fiction/non-fiction/different time) where would it be? Why?
Being in a modernized Avatar universe sounds really cool, unless I end up being a non-bender :U But the possibilities with elemental bending, man. It's endless.

2. Out of your own OCs, who’s your favorite?
fffffff I guess I'll go with Domino since he's been commanding most of my attention recently, but my favorite tends to change depending on what I'm currently working on. I'll break the rules and choose two OCs, Domino and Thais, since they're both pretty similar and are meant to play off each other. Both are highly ambitious and have/had good intentions that went horribly awry, and the majority of their story is about battling with their skewed sense of morality. Their character arc alone has been difficult for me to figure out, but in a fun challenging sort of way.

3. Rain or Snow?
Snow because I see rain all the time and rarely any snow.

4. Summer or Winter?
I prefer moderate summers.

5. Death by flesh eating virus or live forever with no face?
If I couldn't see, eat, or talk, there's not much I'd want to do, so death by virus :U Unless I'm some sort of weird faceless thing like Slenderman, then I could deal with having no face.

6. If a stranger asked you to write a phone number on a bathroom wall, would you do it?
I'd probably write the phone number of someone I didn't like, but not my own.

7. If you could change the color of the sun, what would you change It to? Why?
Rainbow, because fucking rainbows.

8. What’s your favorite song?
Ugh I love a lot of songs, but my current favorite is probably Backseat Freestyle by Kendrick Lamar.

9. If you were a god, what would you be the god of?
Lol we've established in the godmode au that I'd be the crybaby angst god of oblivion.

10. What is one thing you’ve always wanted to do, but are too afraid to?
I keep wanting to run into the LoL club at my school and yell “LEAGUE OF LEGENDS FUCKING SUCKS” just to fuck with some of my CS friends in there, but I'm actually a big chicken in RL when it comes to social settings.

Questions by :iconbroeckchen:

1. What does your workspace look like?
Like trash. I have shit everywhere. So many papers and art supplies scattered everywhere. And a fucking cat. Get off my desk you furry asshole.

2. Do you like having snacks while working on your art? If so, what kind?
I find snacks distracting, but I occasionally eat them while I work anyways. Cereal, eggs, cookie in a cup, whatever is sitting around my house that takes minimal effort to prepare.

3. What are your biggest motivations for artsy stuff?
Other artists. I see the work they do and how pumped up they get over their own projects, and that really inspires me to try and do the same.

4. How did you get into drawing?
Neopets. I loved entering the Beauty Contests and making pretty petpages filled with art and my pets' backstories. I fucking sucked at drawing when I first began entering the BC, but gdi I was determined to WIN so I just kept drawing and trying to improve from then on.

5. What was your first OC ever?
Some rainbow dragon oc named Kahna. I based her off of a beanie baby I got on my 5th birthday.

6. Who's your favorite OC of another person, and why?
Oh gosh, I don't even know, I love so many OCs hhhhhhhh just refer to the favorite character meme up above once it's been updated with more people.

7. What is your own current favorite OC, and why?
I already answered this in the previous set of questions, but I'll go ahead and list another OC. My previous (though arguably still my current) favorite was Rex just for being ridiculously fun to write. He's probably best known for being my most comedic character, though he's also my most tragic one with the most solidified story. There's a lot of real life people that I drew inspiration from while I was developing Rex, so I'm a little more attached to him than I am with most of my characters.

8. Is there a story you really want to tell some day?
There are several. Most of my stories are subtly interconnected in some way except Rex's, whose story is probably the only non-fantasy one that I've developed. The one that I've been thinking about getting off the ground first is one called Clairvoyance featuring Domino and Thais, which I'd like to make into a webcomic. It's an urban fantasy that's been really daunting to world build for because of how it intertwines with my other stories. I make it even more complicated for myself by constantly changing how the rules of this world works, so in the end, all of these stories are probably gonna be inconsistent as fuck no matter how hard I try.

9. Have you ever discovered a canon character who uncannily resembled one of your OCs, and how do you deal with that?
Haha, yes. I base my OCs off of a lot of things, but if I happen to find a similar character that I didn't use as inspo for my own, I try to see what I can implement into my character to make them better, or what to change so my character can stand more as their own entity.

10. How do you create a character?
Usually I start out with a concept for a story, and then I figure out a design for a character that would fit into it. Once I figure out a general look, then I spend months trying to figure out a personality, if I even stay interested in the story for that long.

And I'm too lame to come up with questions of my own to ask, but if you wanna answer any of the question up above, please go right on ahead!

Ok I'll jump the bandwagon.

This account has been around for 6 years but I've actually been on this website for over 8 years. Back then when I first joined I was completely obsessed with Neopets and Pokemon and nothing else. I ended up joining dA because I was really inspired by the popular Neopet artist Fatal-mantis85, and if it weren't for her, I probably would have never gotten so involved in drawing or making stories as I am now.

NEEDS MORE FUCKING LENS FLARE

After several years I finally started to grow tired of playing Neopets and writing Pokemon fanfiction. I wanted to produce more original work, and my next obsession ended up being dragons. That's when I came across an RP forum called The Dragon Clan Lands, where I met a great community of people that helped me improve in my writing and encouraged me to keep drawing. It's not not as active as it used to be 6 years ago, but there's still a small group that RPs there. Unfortunately I've fallen quiet there since my interests moved somewhere else...

NEEDS MORE DRAGONS.

After the DCL, I became involved in the OCT circuit starting with :iconthecity-oct:, and I think this is where I really began to improve in my art. Keeping up with deadlines and learning to manage my time made me so much more efficient at drawing, and I received a lot of helpful advice on storytelling and making comics. I ended up connecting with an incredibly wide, diverse network of artists, many of which I've become close friends with. It's harder for me to keep up with the demands of an OCT now, but I guess I'm not quite out of them yet.

MUCH IMPROVEMENT.

So as of now? I've been thinking about which story of mine I want to turn into a webcomic, but it's been difficult to decide. Just recently I joined the group :iconcardians:, which has been such a welcoming community and it's been super fun participating in it so far. I haven't submitted much art to it yet, so hopefully that will change soon so I can give my non-Cardian watchers an idea of what this whole thing is about C:

I guess I'll update lol I don't even know how to write these anymore.

SO, last week I was in rich people land in Sun Valley, and those of you who have been watching me for a while probably know I go there sometimes for skating boot camp. This time I went there to go audition for skating shows - it was my first time trying out for something like this, so it was quite a learning experience! Figure skating isn't something I talk that much about online, but it's an art form that's very dear to me and something that I've been doing practically my whole life, so I'd like to at least share a little bit about it here.

For this particular audition, we had producers from several different shows that ranged from cruise ships, to theme parks, to even Disney on Ice. The group of skaters I traveled with arrived there a week early to get used to the ice and have a bit of extra training with some notable performers such as Judy Blumberg and Stephanee Grosscup. Some of the stuff that Stephanee had to say were things I think I really needed to hear coming from a competitive skating background with little experience in performing for entertainment. I guess I can call myself officially retired from competitive skating after my last competition ended horribly, and for a while I've felt like I've wasted the past 16 years of my life skating because I never achieved anything that noteworthy in the sport. I'm a relatively strong skater, but I was a poor competitor because I couldn't handle the stress or the pressure of competing as I grew older. I was honestly feeling like a failure until Stephanee mentioned that many of her students go through the same ordeal, and she actually gets excited when they finally admit they want to quit competitive skating so that she can introduce them to show skating. She had so much energy and passion for show skating that it helped me feel so much better about trying to pursue this route.

And after spending a week there, I've learned show skating is a helluva lot more fun that competitive skating.

I don't think I've ever enjoyed doing a program like the one I did for the auditions. Even in practice, skating programs were always something I dreaded, and I'd always try to avoid or prolong doing them. But for the program I did for the producers, it was so easy to get into the mood of the song and smile - I could never genuinely smile in a competitive program, it was always too awkward and forced. When I went to perform, I literally couldn't stop smiling until I got off the ice and drank some water because my mouth had gotten so dry my lips were plastered to my gums lol (there's actually a recording of my performance but it's really small and shitty).

When I went to talk to the producers afterwards they had pretty positive things to say. They generally liked my expression, the power in my elements, and the song choice (which I'm glad because I can't stand to listen to that song casually anymore). The shows that tour Europe said that it'd be better if I started touring around the U.S. with a company like Disney before I tried touring in other countries, and the cruise ship wasn't interested in anyone who couldn't consistently land a double axel, which no one did during the auditions so...guess it's their loss? But now that I'm back home, I know I need to work on my stage presence and flexibility along with adding more jumps to my repertoire. And whether I get a call back or not, I know I'll be attending college next fall, but as for the semester after that, hmmm, not sure. I'll definitely be applying for more shows in the meantime, so who knows if I'll manage to get into one or not. Whatever my future is, Sun Valley was a good experience for me, and it sort of felt like a new beginning. After competing for so long and feeling miserable, I feel like I've rediscovered my love for this sport now that I'm actually doing something I enjoy with it.

Anyways I JUST WANTED TO WRITE A FEEL GOOD JOURNAL ABOUT THIS skating means a lot to me.

As for dA related news, I owe a lot of art so I prolly won't be submitting personal drawings anytime soon. I'm also in the East Coast Cardians, which y'all should check out and maybe join, aaaaand I may or may not be considering joining an OCT with :iconsaerif: sometime soon 8D;; So yup! This is probably the only journal entry I'll have here for the next 6 months until I feel like I need to dust this place off again.
